Moran’s guitar roots were laid during his humble beginnings in Fairfield,
CT. Billy’s older brother played guitar. In fact, it was that very
guitar that propelled Billy into the world of musical expression. After
picking up that guitar at age 11 to play along with Adam Clayton’s
bass line in U2’s "Where the Streets Have No Name", Billy
knew he had an ear for music. This led to Billy’s desire to become
better and better at his craft. 100% self-taught, Billy became notorious
for locking himself in his room until he was able to play a song that he
had only just heard. One of Billy’s biggest influences was former Guns N’ Roses guitarist, Slash. Billy recalls the day he saw Slash play for the first time: “I was totally blown away by his style and his tone. So I immediately went out and bought "Appetite" (for Destruction).” In less than a week, Billy could play the entire album front to back. Billy’s dedication to his vigorous practice schedule first became apparent when he played for a few of his friends after school. The very next day the word was out. People began approaching him in the halls of Fairfield Woods Middle School wanting to hear his music and trying to find out what Billy Moran was all about. This led to Billy performing in several bands throughout middle school and high school, which quickly accelerated his progress as a serious guitarist. During his Senior Year, Billy formed Circle of Karma through which he continued to develop his musical talent, and impress audiences with his guitar playing skills. Circle of Karma only led to bigger and better things, however. Always looking for new opportunities to grow, Billy eventually landed a gig with a reputable, and frankly hot, local band known as X-IT. Billy helped X-IT receive continuously rave reviews and multiple awards. One award of note: The Fairfield County Weekly Reader’s Choice Award for Best Local Rock Band. More important than the accolades, Billy received from these projects a burning desire to become a more established and successful guitarist. Opening for bands like Godsmack, Wyclef Jean and the Refugee All-Stars and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones helped fuel that fire. Never being one to settle, Billy felt his wings needed to spread even further. The world is, after all, much bigger than Fairfield, CT. And Billy knew this. So, in late 2001, he packed up his life and moved it out west in search of artistic growth. Currently residing in Los Angeles, CA, Billy is working hard on his new album while lending his talents to various side projects. He continues to push his limits as an innovative and well-rounded guitar player, vocalist and songwriter. |
